To enable a student to grow into a well-rounded person, Thor College provides a variety of extra-curricular activities. Our safe, wholesome, rural setting allows them to have a better understanding of nature and agriculture and it enables us to provide the outdoor facilities for our extensive athletic program.

As the school year progresses, the students have the opportunity to become involved in the band, field trips, school trips, the school play, music lessons, after school clubs and camping weekend. Camping weekend has become a tradition at Thor College. Students, staff, and parents of the younger children spend two fun-filled days and one night of camping at the school Campus. A trip to Wonderland is part of this event as well as campfire songs and stories, roasting marshmallows and wieners, and many games such as the three-legged race, fox and the hound, and capture the flag.

A number of field trips and nature walks have been added to the curriculum to enhance the students’ education. These include a stream study, bug hunts, leaf collecting, the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum), Science Centre, McMichael’s Art Gallery, the Tiffin Centre, the Stratford Festival, and others.
Some of our senior elementary students have enjoyed a three to five day trip to various Canadian cities. Our destinations have been Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto. Our trip’s itinerary has been focused on educational exhibits such as museums, historical buildings, monuments, and landmarks and entertainment such as arcade, wax museums, and professional baseball games. Our students comment that these trips have been the highlight of the school year, which they will remember for a lifetime.

The Christmas Pageant and the spring play are excellent opportunities for our budding young theatrical talent to shine. In the past we have presented productions such as Seussical, Aristocats, Annie Jr., Willy Wonka, Peter Pan, Sound of Music, Wizard of Oz, Grease, and more. The entire school is involved in these plays allowing all of our students to have a taste of the theatre.

Our extra-curricular activities are extensive and varied enabling our students to develop a well-rounded character and giving them the opportunity to take part in many activities of enjoyment. A well-rounded person is always appealing to colleges and universities.
